Advanced Technology Independence has participated in a four-year funding proposal to the National Science Foundation (NSF) in October 2023 for a new initiative called: Western Pennsylvania Semiconductor Education Consortium (WPSEC). The consortium seeks to address the workforce needs of the semiconductor industry raised by the CHIPS and Science Act by taking a multi-pronged regional approach to creating educational pathways for technicians. The collaborative consortium will be comprised of 4 regional community colleges in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Semiconductor-related industry partners and existing Advanced Technological Education (ATE) centers will also partner with the consortium to reach the goal of broadening technician education at all levels from grades 7-12 through post graduate 2yr degree programs with three thrusts to be funded over a 4 year period.  ATI is proud to be a partner in this important initiative which also has the potential to be a scalable prototype and may be replicated in other regions.
